The Advantages and Disadvantages of using Viral Marketing

For my cases, I think thier Pros & Cons of using Viral Marketing are almost the same.


Avantages:


High reach - The restrictions of internet platform are much lower than other traditional channels, it just need a "click", the message can be sent to a large group of people' s mailbox. And lean on the social network between users, the message can be spread widely, even to the people who not in the company's database.


Low Cost - Viral marketing usually uses e-mail, social networks, blogs and videos, if it just post on internet, it may only a small cost or even free of charge. Even if you use TV ad, you can also post on Youtube to save the cost of the later part of buying the media spot.


Disavantages:


Antipathy - The message may be sent to he people who don't want to receive, moreover if the message repeat and repeat be appeared, it will create a bad feeling, and it may also affect the brand image.

In these days, there is an advertising become very popular in Hong Kong.




The advertising of LION Systema toothbrush

 
The jingle inside, is used a part of the song “All I Have to do is Dream”, and is adapted for a lyrics that focus on the selling point of the toothbrush, sharp shape. However, because the jingle is regarded as "brainwash work", it has been spoof by many netizens. In Youtube, there are numerous versions of the advertising has been hit heavily, for example the 10 minutes version of the advertising.






Affected by the jingle, it becomes a well-known advertising. Its discussions are now just like a virus diffusing among different social networking platforms, such as forum, blog and facebook. Even there are netizens created a group in facebook, moreover the members are going to have an event that singing the jingle in the street. All proof that the noise of the advertising is such big, and at the same time LionSystema is benefit from the viral marketing.






The hitting rate of the original version is over 40thousand, and there are over 300 thousand people hit the 10 minutes version.

It is easily to find a viral marketing in everyone mailbox. Here is one from mine.


The laptop new launch promotion of Sony Ericsson. They sent the ad through e-mail and called users to forward it.




In the ad, Sony Ericsson used the element of “benefit to users “to motivate the forwarding rate. And they provide two different models of laptop to make the people who want to get a free laptop more actively and widely send the e-mail to their friends. At last, this ad could like a virus be transmitted to many people's mailbox. Even if the people who received it but no forwarded may also be aware that Sony Ericsson have launched T18 & R320.
